Man With Sledghammer At Wendy's Restaurant

Press Release from 2/13/12

On Monday, 2/13/12, at approximately 5:45pm, Cuyahoga Falls Police received a 911 call from the Wendy’s Restaurant at 460 Howe Ave reporting a man was smashing out the windows of the restaurant with a sledgehammer.

Prior to officers’ arrival, an off-duty Kent Ohio Police Officer, who was at Wendy’s with his son, was able to subdue the subject. There were numerous other customers in the restaurant as well. No injuries occurred to the patrons

The investigation revealed that 45 year old Cuyahoga Falls Resident Andrew Meiser had just finished eating at Wendy’s, walked across the street to Home Depot, purchased a 6 lb. Sledgehammer, walked back across the street and proceeded to smash out several exterior windows. The preliminary damage estimate and loss of business to Wendy’s is in excess $4,000.

When asked, Meiser did not give a reason for his actions; he did sustain injuries from the broken glass, and was transported to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation.

Felony Vandalism and Inducing Panic charges are pending upon Meiser’s release from the hospital.
