City Accepting Hurricane Katrina Monetary Donations

In observance of the first anniversary of Hurricane Katrina on August 29, 2006 the City of Cuyahoga Falls is presenting our Sister City, D'Iberville, MS, with a check from our Disaster Relief Fund. Anyone still wanting to make a donation, please do so by this Friday, August 25th. Checks can be made out to "City of Cuyahoga Falls Disaster Relief Fund". In D'Iberville, 405 homes have been restored out of the 1,610 homes that were either damaged or completely destroyed, and currently, the D'Iberville School District is planning to build a new school to replace one that was destroyed.

Since Hurricane Katrina, nearly 4,000 volunteers have put in over 150,000 hours of work into the rebuilding of D'Iberville. Mayor Don L. Robart stated, "Our city is very proud of the contributions we have presented either through monetary donations, our donation center and many volunteer hours provided to D'Iberville since the disaster. We made a commitment to the citizens of that community and we have stuck by our word. This has been a positive partnership for both cities."

For more information on how to contribute, please call the Service Director's office at 330-971-8240.
