Akron Pops Concert Location Change

The Akron Pops Concert that was scheduled for 7:30pm at Oak Park has been moved indoors to the Quirk Cultural Center, 1201 Grant Ave., Cuyahoga Falls, 44221.  The location change is due to the execessive heat and humidity.  The Quirk Cultural Center can be reached by calling 330-971-8425.

Cuyahoga Falls Electric Peak Shaving

This week the area power system is expected to experience higher loads. The Cuyahoga Falls Electric Department is asking customers to reduce load between the hours of 2:00PM and 6:00PM each day this week to help reduce charges on their bills.

Cuyahoga Falls Electric gets billed capacity and transmission charges based on the city’s peak usage the previous year. The peak usage amount is set by the city’s usage during the five days and hours when the transmission system was at its peak for the year. Part of the city’s power cost is rolled along to the customers.

Water Works Family Aquatic Center & City Wading Pools Closed Today

Water Works Family Aquatic Center and all city wading pools will be closed the balance of the day due to inclement weather.

Dam Removal Delayed Due to Storms & High Water Levels

Unfortunately, due to the storms last night, the Sheraton Dam removal, originally scheduled for this morning, is on delay.  The water level is at 700 cfs, which is too high for workers to safely work.  We hope to begin work when the water level is around 200 cfs.  At this moment, the weather is unpredictable and we are going moment to moment.

Sheraton Dam Test Cuts To Begin

Although there are some weather events anticipated over the next few days, we currently have acceptable weather conditions for proceeding with the Sheraton Dam Removal. 

Dam Removal Delayed Due To High Water Levels

Due to the many storms and rain accumulation of the past 24 hours, the first cut into the Sheraton dam is delayed.  We apologize for this delay; however, with the current water level at 1,130 cubic feet per second, it is not safe for the crew to begin.  

Dam Removal - First Cut To Be Made

Following equipment barge placement and testing, it is anticipated the first cut into the Sheraton Dam will take place on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, around mid-day.  For more details and the latest update, please refer to www.cityofcf.com and click on Dam Restoration Project in the left rotating box.
