Cuyahoga Falls Mayor, Don L. Robart invites families throughout the region to kick off the City’s Bicentennial celebration. The Frozen River Festival will take place at Falls River Square, in downtown Cuyahoga Falls on Saturday, January 21 and Sunday, January 22, 2012. This event marks the first of many to be held in 2012 to commemorate the City’s 200th Birthday.
"There is so much momentum behind this event. The Bicentennial Committee has been meeting and planning these events since spring of 2011", commented Mayor Robart. "We will celebrate a Bicentennial Event each month culminating in August for a gigantic 10-day festival of epic proportion".
The Frozen River Festival hours are 3:00 – 8:00pm on Saturday and Sunday, January 21st and 22nd. Admission and parking to the event are free.
Watch in amazement as experienced carvers from the University of Akron Garde Manger Club carve fascinating ice sculptures both days around the Ice Rink. Bring your camera and have your picture taken on a giant 6-foot Ice Throne!
After admiring the ice carvings outside, warm up in the Pavilion with a glass of wine in a limited edition commemorative Bicentennial wine glass from Sarah’s Vineyard. Wine lovers can sample a variety of delicious wines at a nominal cost and purchase bottles at the winery located on Steels Corners Road, across from Blossom Music Center.
Be the first to taste the Official Bicentennial Beer crafted by Thirsty Dog Brewery! This Olde Ale was brewed exclusively for the Bicentennial and visiting Falls River Square is the only way to get it! Samples will be available to adults 21 and over for a nominal cost. The Cashmere Cricket, and Firehouse Bar and Grille, also located downtown will feature pints of the special brew beginning this weekend. The Bicentennial Ale will be available in six-packs by mid February in Cuyahoga Falls’ grocery stores.
The event will take place both Saturday and Sunday, and, as a special kick off to the celebration on Saturday at 3:00 pm, students of Kent State University’s figure skating program will perform a spectacular 15-minute program at the ice rink.
A special treat throughout the weekend will be the chance to win a giant 3-foot stuffed Polar Bear courtesy of Coca Cola. To promote awareness of the polar bear’s plight, Coke has partnered with the City to give away the large stuffed bear to one lucky winner.
Skate all day and enjoy hot chocolate, coffee and snacks at the rink. Admission to the ice rink is free for residents with the CFOne Card. Non-resident admission is $3. Skate rental is available for $3.
