City Purchases Former State Road BP Station

Mayor Don L. Robart announced that the City of Cuyahoga Falls closed on the purchase of the former BP gas station located at 2811 State Road on September 9, 2011.  “Due to its great, visible location, this corner is a key parcel for the redevelopment of the new Portage Crossing retail project,” stated Mayor Robart.

The parcel was purchased for $ 885,000 and based on the previously approved contract for sale between the City and the developer; the purchase price was shared 50/50 with Stark Enterprises.

“We will now aggressively pursue the demolition of the property,” stated Susan Truby, Director of Development, “in order to prepare the property for groundbreaking.”

The City is anxiously awaiting the execution of retail leases between the developer and the stores so that plans can move forward.  Mr. Steven Rubin, COO, Stark Enterprises stated, “We are very pleased and excited by our progress and expect to have announcements shortly.  We are very cognizant that we told the public that we hoped to have announcements around Labor Day.  We are working hard to get in that position as quickly as we can.”

As soon as leases are approved and executed, the names of the forthcoming stores will appear on the large development sign located at the corner of State Road and Portage Trail.
