Public Lands Year of the River Cleanup Program

On Public Lands Day, Saturday, September 26th, the City of Cuyahoga Falls will be partnering with several communities in the Middle Cuyahoga Watershed in the coordination of a second 2009 Year of the River cleanup project. Volunteers with canoes and kayaks as well as volunteers on foot to help pull litter and debris from the Cuyahoga River are needed.

Volunteers working from canoes and kayaks will meet at Brust Park in Munroe Falls at 8:30 AM. Following a brief safety demonstration, the canoes and kayak volunteers will put their vessels into the river and the cleanup will begin.

Volunteers not working from canoes or kayaks will meet at the Shady Bend Shelter at Water Works Park, 2025 Munroe Falls Avenue (behind the Aquatic Center) in Cuyahoga Falls at 9:00 AM. A brief safety demonstration and project overview will prepare these volunteers who wish to collect litter and debris on land along the river, and to assist canoeists and kayakers as needed to pull debris to a designated collection site.

The September 26th Cuyahoga River cleanup project will conclude at about Noon. Litter pick-up tools, gloves, trash bags and refreshments will be provided. In addition, while the supply lasts, special edition 2009 Year of the River t-shirts will be provided to cleanup volunteers.
