Building a Better Tomorrow!

Mayor Don L. Robart invites the public to the beginning of the revitalization of the State Road Shopping Center. Demolition of the former 350,000 square foot plaza will begin on Friday, August 21, 2009.

A public demolition ceremony will be staged on the State Road side between Pizza Hut and the former Montgomery Ward Automotive Store on August 21, 2009 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm. Public parking will be available on site and visitors may access the parking lot from Portage Trail.

In addition to local officials, keynote speakers will include the future developer, Robert L. Stark and representatives from the Ohio Department of Development, whose involvement was critical to the City's successful grant request of $ 2,000,000 from the Clean Ohio Revitalization Fund.

The grant monies are being utilized for demolition, asbestos removal and soil remediation on the site. "These actions are necessary in order to provide the future development team with a clean site for new construction" stated Development Director, Susan L. Truby, "and we are pleased to have received the financial assistance from the State on this important project for our community."

The demolition work is estimated to continue until November 30, 2009.

Mayor Robart stated "The past cannot be recreated in Cuyahoga Falls or anywhere else; instead, the future must be reinvented." "We are truly excited about this stage in the process but know that the final project will be what provides our residents with new retail choices."

The public ceremony will also provide food and entertainment, so bring the whole family to witness

an exciting time in our City's history.
