Subway Manager Sponsors Another Blood Drive at Cuyahoga Falls Natatorium

Give Blood. Give Life. Get a Sub!Hoping to shore up the loss of blood collections from blood drives cancelled due to the weather, John Schmitt, manager of the Natatorium Subway®, is sponsoring the next Red Cross blood drive at the Cuyahoga Falls Natatorium on Thursday, March 27. Each presenting donor will receive a coupon for a free, 6-inch Subway® sandwich, redeemable at the Cuyahoga Falls Natatorium Subway®.

Vikki Chapman, Red Cross Donor Recruitment Representative, noted that as of March 5th, the Northern Ohio Blood Services Region is in a "critical recovery" effort due to the weather's effect on area blood drives this year. At least seven drives were cancelled, resulting in the loss of more than 1,000 expected pints and creating unexpected blood emergencies.

A kidney-transplant recipient, Schmitt knows first-hand the need for blood donations. Although he is not permitted to donate blood, Schmitt declared, "I'm committed to sponsoring two blood drives each year at the Natatorium". By doing so, he hopes to "produce the largest turnout for any blood drive in the history of Cuyahoga Falls."

"This is the fourth blood drive where John Schmitt has donated sub-sandwich coupons," said Cuyahoga Falls Mayor, Don Robart. It's a great example of his commitment to community service in Cuyahoga Falls. I'm urging all residents, Natatorium patrons and City employees to participate in this month's blood drive and help replenish the critical blood supply."

The March 27th community blood drive runs from 1:00 pm to 7:30 pm at the Cuyahoga Falls Natatorium. Blood donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health and provide a Red Cross donor card or a valid state-photo ID. Donors may safely give whole blood every 56 days.
