Ice Rink Opens at Falls River Square

Mayor Don Robart officially kicks off the winter season with the 4th Annual Opening Celebration of the Ice Rink at Falls River Square on Saturday, November 24, 2007. The ice rink will be open 7 days a week through the holiday and winter break season.

"We couldn't be more pleased with the turnout and support from our residents," commented Mayor Robart. "Over the short time the rink has been open, the outdoor ice rink in our town has truly become a tradition for families to enjoy together." The Cuyahoga Falls rink has created many wonderful memories. Last season, a young college student proposed to his girlfriend at the ice rink. The Falls rink had a special place in both their hearts as it was the location of their first date.

The excitement begins at 12:00 noon on Saturday, November 24th with activities, skating exhibitions, music and treats for all ages including FREE pictures with Santa, FREE train rides throughout the site, a tree lighting ceremony, and a spectacular ice skating show. Don't miss the holiday crafters inside the Pavilion with specialty gift items ranging from exquisite jewelry to mini-Christmas trees and homemade candles. Falls River Square food vendors will also be in the Pavilion such as the new Gothik Grounds, Karin's on the Riverfront and Metropolis Popcorn, featuring holiday coffee drinks, scrumptious pastries and gourmet popcorn.

The City of Cuyahoga Falls is fortunate to have a community partner as the stage sponsor for 2007. The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the National Electrical Contractors Association (IBEW/NECA) donated $25,000 to the City in 2007. "We are thrilled to have the members of IBEW and NECA on board again this year", commented Mayor Robart. In years past, IBEW/NECA donated the 25' Christmas tree that is installed every year as part of the festivities as well as all of the lighting on the Pavilion and the Red Parking Deck.

The City will also be receiving a special gift in the form of a sensational winter scene developed by Katherine's Collection, Inc. Katherine's Collection, located in Cuyahoga Falls, designs and creates specialty gift items. They are known internationally for their highly creative and brilliant seasonal decorations and travel throughout the world to decorate some of the most famous windows such as Macy's and Harrod's. Susan Truby reported, "Katherine's has graciously donated their time, talent and materials to decorate the fireplace area inside the Pavilion. We are proud to have a company like Katherine's in our City and are so appreciative of their holiday display for all to enjoy".
