Adopted City of D'Iberville celebrated with a survival Revival August 29, 2006

The Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio adopted City of D'Iberville, Mississippi marked its one-year anniversary after Hurricane Katrina with a "Survival Revival." City representatives Valerie Wax Carr, Service Director, and Joe Brodzinski, Finance Director, attended a ceremony thanking the many volunteers who have contributed to the rebuilding of D'Iberville. Last fall the city of Cuyahoga Falls had approximately 100 people travel to D'Iberville over a six-week period to assist with hurricane relief. Cuyahoga Falls was the first outside group to come to D'Iberville's aid. A special recognition was also made honoring the D'Iberville Volunteers Foundation. The Foundation was established in cooperation with the city of D'Iberville with the pursuit to restore and/or rebuild the over 2000 homes and properties affected by Hurricane Katrina. As of August 1, 2006, five hundred properties had been completed.

Ms. Carr and Mr. Brodzinski presented a check for $4502 to the D'Iberville Volunteer Foundation on the Hurricane Katrina anniversary. The money had been collected from residents and Cuyahoga Falls employees for the residents of D'Iberville. In addition, the Cuyahoga Falls officials attended planning meetings with the D'Iberville Mayor Rusty Quave and the D'Iberville Volunteer Foundation president and vice president on future assistance projects.

Mayor Don L. Robart stated, "that although a year has passed since the destructive hurricane hit the Gulf Coast, we continue to communicate and offer assistance to our adopted city of D'Iberville. They are not forgotten as they continue to rebuild and we are proud to be part of that process."

Residents are encouraged to still make contributions by sending checks payable to The City of Cuyahoga Falls Disaster Relief Fund, 2310 Second Street, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221. Checks or gift cards to Lowe's or Home Depot can also be sent directly to the D'Iberville Volunteer Foundation, Inc. c/o 11322 Lamey Bridge Road, D'Iberville, MS 39540.
