Doodlebug Memorial Garden Site Wins National Award

Service Director Valerie Wax Carr is pleased to announce that the Doodlebug Memorial Garden site has been awarded a First Place National Award by Keep America Beautiful (KAB) and will be honored at the KAB's 52nd National Conference in Orlando, FL on December 9, 2005. The Doodlebug Garden Memorial site was selected out of 25 national finalists for this award due to the outstanding efforts in Beautification & Community Improvement in the Youth Group category. Award winners Joseph Gajovski, Nathan Gera, Clarissa Melvin and their families will travel to the conference in December to accept the award.

The Doodlebug Memorial Garden site performed well in several scoring categories such as program execution, results, sustainability, budget/impact and community involvement. The program scored an amazing 41 out of 50 overall attainable points.

Community members wishing to assist with the Doodlebug Kids' travel related expenses may send checks made payable to the "Doodlebug Fund" c/o: City of Cuyahoga Falls Attn: Doodlebug Site Award, Service Director's Office, 2310 2nd St., Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio 44221. All proceeds will go toward travel related expenses for the award winners to attend the ceremony. In addition, the award winners will be at the Doodlebug Memorial Garden site on November 5, 2005 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. to answer questions and collect donations for their trip.

Mayor Don L. Robart stated, "I am so proud of the Doodlebug Kids Joe, Nathan and Clarissa for their award-winning site. Their tenacious drive and work ethic transformed this old, vacant site into a magnificent and tranquil spot to reflect and remember loved ones lost."
