The Board of Zoning Appeals is an administrative and quasi-judicial body. Its decisions carry the weight of the law and are appealable only to a court of law. Thus the Board takes its responsibility and the gravity of its decision with seriousness and solemnity. In general, the Board:
- Will listen to sworn testimony of the applicant and others at the meeting
- Examine maps, plans, drawings, photos, etc.
- Ascertain the facts, and
- Make a decision on the basis of the facts, the requirements of the Zoning Code, and the law.
- The Board, in most instances, makes its decision on the night of the hearing. Some items may be tabled to allow additional study
