The heart of the Adopt-A-Spot Program lies with the hundreds of stewards who volunteer each year. Stewards may consist of individuals, families, scout troops, civil groups, businesses… anyone who makes the commitment to a site for one growing season may become an Adopt-A-Spot Steward.
Each spring the City’s Grounds Maintenance staff prepare the beds for planting. Stewards are then responsible for plant selection, planting, weeding, watering and general maintenance of their adopted site on a weekly basis throughout the season.
Stewards retain their adopted site until they decide to leave the program. When new beds become available, current Stewards have first choice at changing sites. We try to match Stewards and sites by location, closer to home or to work makes it easier for everyone to maintain their weekly commitment as the season goes on.
Each fall Stewards are rewarded with a Fall Thank You Reception hosted by Mayor Robart.
This year we have almost 300 stewards maintaining our sites throughout the City.
